DIY recycled rosette cardigan

diy rosette cardigan step 5 close up
Happy Wednesday everyone, I thought I'd share a little something of what I have been up to lately. Today I added a little flair to this boring old cardigan I never wore. I saw this and this on anthropology so I decided to cut up an old t-shirt my husband was throwing away and made these adorable little roses to attach to my cardigan.

here is a step by step tutorial

step 1: Cut a strip off an old t-shirt

step 2: Twist it

Step 3: Roll in a spiral shape and stitch in place.

(Finished rosette)

step 4: Stitch rosette(s) to cardigan

lace and doillies table setting

What a fun time I had setting and photographing this Valentines table spread. I'm noticing that recently I have been a little obsessed with lace and doilies. :)I made origami boxes out of grocery bags for the favors on each plate and hand cut/hole punched the larger doilies under each place setting. It turned out great, in fact I love it so much we eat at the bar now so as not to ruin all the "prettyness".

sugar cookies

We're cooking up a storm over here in the Gudmundsen kitchen. Can you spy what's different about our treats?

Surprise! They are all inedible! What a great way to let out my need to bake pretty things and still stay healthy! They also make great play food!

Winter wonderland dining room

The tree in the dining room is our Santa tree I guess because when you enter the room it feels like the north pole. We love it! The table is decorated with felt trees and paperclay snowmen we made ourselves .

yellow birthday party

When I asked what kind of birthday she wanted, my daughter answered, "yellow".
Well... I think I got that covered. Here are the photos from her party yesterday.
I sewed her dress from the same pattern I used for her Easter dress. I just changed the hem and sleeves to my liking and made a rosette broach. The tablecloth is the leftover fabric from her dress. The button and lemon were for the two games my daughter requested; button button who's got the button , and hot potato, with a lemon instead of a potato. I baked the cupcakes and made lemonade for refreshments. The party favor boxes were from the wedding section at the dollar store, I just added the name tag dots and mini clothes pins. I got the paper lanterns for a dollar each at Michael's. I got the balloons and giant punch balloon at the dollar store. Lastly, the flower wands barely pictured next to the lemonade were favors that I made as well. The flowers come off and become hair clips. Can you tell I had a lot of fun with this party? :)

yo ho yo ho

My son's birthday is coming up so I thought I'd get myself back into the blogging world to share these invitations I just made. The black flags are made from stiff felt and the scull was made by carving a stamp out of a tiny apple I picked from my back yard. The back of the invitations are made from a vintage map I scanned. My favorite part is that the felt turns into a pirate flag!

I can't believe I haven't blogged for three months.
Why was I gone for three months you ask? Well I am currently four months pregnant so... lets just say my keyboard is grateful because I couldn't toss any cookies onto it if I stayed away. Please forgive me the long long break I took but seriously I wasn't doing anything too exciting. I'm feeling great now and we are super excited. We will find out the sex of the baby next week!

Paper flag banner

Today I am staying home from church with a sick boy, above is the result. I made this paper flag banner out of scrap book paper I already had purchased from the dollar store and thrift store. I love how it turned out! All I did was sew triangles together on the sewing machine and then tack it up. I had a dream last night that I was making birthday kits to sell on Etsy. They included: a paper flag banner, handmade party hats (like in this post), balloons, paper bag decorations, and toothpick cupcake toppers. Should I do it? Would they sell? Please give me feed back!

new dress and knickers for Easter

I just finished sewing these today (barely in time for Easter). I sewed them useing 25 cent vintage patterns I found at the thrift store. The dress is made from a Swiss dot vintage fabric my grandmother gave me. The fabric I made the knickers out of was an old pair of pants my husband had ripped beyond repair. I just LOVE how they turned out!

red color party theme

It was my older brothers birthday on Monday so My sister and I threw him a surprise party. We made the party hats and the paper bag starburst with what I had laying around the craft room. We had angel food cake and strawberries with home made whipped cream! Then we went to the movies to see this , and then did this as an added bonus! Basically it was a super fun day!

garland of hearts

I just made this new garland out of what I had on hand and I love it! I bought the red pigment ink at the dollar store so i guess that wasn't on hand. That old book paper is really a staple at my house now! Take a look at what else I made with it.

These are the valentines that I made for my son's nursery teachers. I love the layers and the way they open at the corner. I also adore the winged envelopes they go in. Hope you have a happy v-day, we're off to a neighbors valentine exchange party!
